Unlock PDF
Remove a password you know from a PDF.
Files never leave your browser
If you have a password-protected PDF that you can already open, unlocking removes that password so you don’t have to type it every time. ToucanPDF decrypts the file locally using the password you provide — nothing is uploaded, and no password is ever stored.
How it works
- 1Select your password-protected PDF.
- 2Enter the password you use to open it.
- 3Click “Unlock PDF” to download a copy with the password removed.
Frequently asked questions
- Can this open a PDF if I don’t know the password?
- No — and that’s by design. This tool removes a password you already have; it cannot break, guess, or recover an unknown one. That protection is exactly what keeps encrypted files safe.
- Are my files uploaded to a server?
- No. Every ToucanPDF tool runs entirely inside your browser using your device’s own processing power. Your file is read into memory, worked on locally, and handed back as a download — it never travels to us or anyone else. You can even go offline after the page loads and the tool still works.
- Is the password I type stored anywhere?
- No. It’s used once, in your browser, to decrypt the file, and then it’s gone. It never reaches our servers because there is no server step at all.
